I had a great time working for the Nodaway News Leader. I learned how to interact with clients, design ads, do page layout, get the paper ready to be published. I greatly improved my proficiency with InDesign and also got familiar with editing with Photoshop. Below are some of the covers I designed for the special edition papers.
Here are some of the simple and more complicated ads I created. The main thing I learned when designing ads was that most need to be simple. Get the information across and always include who, what, where and when.
I was introduced to newspaper layout design. At the start of a new paper I chose where all the ads where going to be. I had to work within the newspaper's rules for layout and make sure that ads didn't go on certain pages and on the colored pages. I also was able to do story and picture layout.
